Wall-E

I saw a midnight screening of “Wall-E” tonight. While I enjoyed the movie as a whole, the second half almost feels like an afterthought once your soul has been blessed with the astonishing first 45 minutes. The top half of the film contains some of the most engaging and creative storytelling I have ever seen, despite containing almost no dialogue at all. There are points during this silent sequence in which a robot - a robot! - expresses his personality, his longing, and his passions so adorably and powerfully that I was literally in pain. My heart very nearly exploded.

I am simply blown away by Pixar’s ability to create moments like this. Wall-E may not attain perfection, but it’s daring and creative and charming in completely unique ways. No one else in Hollywood is paying this level of attention to their craft, and it is nothing short of inspiring.

couldn’t have said it better myself. to add to that, I doubt younger viewers will pick up on the (dare I say intense?) social commentary. Overall, though, I thought it was brilliant.
